Elect Joe Alfieri
The elected government of Coeur d' Alene continues to sit idly by while the city 's character slowly slips away. They rubber stamp new developments placed before them that fail to take into account basic items such as traffic studies and the impact on schools. They approve art projects that have little relationship to the community. Their approval of urban renewal projects shifts the tax burdens from developers to citizens. And they have little plan for the future, except for adherence to a growth models developed by big city urban planners. Models that will destroy the city's unique character and turn it into a clone of any number of nameless sprawling small cities. While the city's growth is inevitable, the change in its character is not.
I say Enough. If elected Mayor, I promise to work to preserve the unique character of Coeur d'Alene, honoring the traditions and values on which the city was built, that have made it so desirable. I will be the critic of every plan, a barrier if necessary, or its champion if needed. I will work hard to find solutions to the problems brought on by our growth, to minimize taxes, slow or reduce the size of the city’s bureaucracy, and reduce operating costs. I will work hard to reduce the cost of the City’s government, and to provide better service to the public.
My goal is to help guide Coeur d'Alene's future, to build on its legacy to ensure a bright future for our children, their children, and generations to come.
